PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas--More than 10,000 PVAMU alumni, students, faculty, staff and supporters will converge on the campus of Prairie View A&M University for its 2009 Homecoming celebration, which will include a week-long schedule of exciting events. This year’s theme “Something New, Something Old, EVERYTHING Purple & Gold” will feature several events and entertaining concerts and programs that will welcome alumni and former students back to campus. The events of the week will culminate with a Homecoming parade, football game against Mississippi Valley State and a step-show on Sat. Oct. 17.

Alumni Scholarship Program ________________________________________________________________________

 

Scholarship Criteria
Since Prairie View A&M University is an institution of the First Class, the purpose of this $2000 scholarship is to provide financial support to deserving students in the pursuit of a college education at Prairie View A&M University, regardless of discipline. The scholarship is provided in two equal installments of $1000, each. The following guidelines are designed to govern the scholarship fund on the basis of academic achievement.


Application Guidelines:
1. Applicant must be enrolled, or in the process of enrolling on a full-time basis at Prairie View A&M University.

2. Applicant must have a minimum cumulative 3.0-GPA on a 4.0-GPA scale. The applicant must maintain a minimum 3.0-GPA in order to qualify for a matching scholarship award during his/her second semester at Prairie View A&M University.

3. Applicant must submit an Official Transcript (high school or *college) with the application for this scholarship.

4. Applicant must complete the University’s financial aid application process.

5. Applicant should submit a short biography, highlighting accomplishments and career aspirations. Applicant should also state personal views relative to attending Prairie View A&M University. Applicant must submit a 500 word essay on “Why PVAMU is a University of the First Class.”

6. Applicant must submit three (3) letters of recommendation that will provide character and academic references (letters from family members do not qualify). One of the three letters may come from someone other than an instructor, but must be someone that has worked closely with the applicant outside of school and has had the opportunity to observe the applicant in a non-educational environment. (Letters from school personnel must be on official high school letterhead.)

All applications should be submitted at least 30 days prior to college enrollment (Fall Semester or Spring Semester).

Scholarship Awards:
Scholarship awards will be paid directly to Prairie View A&M University on behalf of the scholarship recipient. In the event a recipient does not attend Prairie View A&M University, the scholarship award is forfeited.


Scholarship Requirements:
Recipients must complete a minimum of 10 community service hours with the Alumni Association, per semester. The second half of the award is contingent upon completion of community service hours the first semester.
